Getting Started

How do I set up ProtectKin?

Setting up takes less than 5 minutes:
  1. Download ProtectKin from the App Store or Google Play
  2. Create your parent account
  3. Add your child's profile (name and age)
  4. Tap "Connect WhatsApp" and scan the QR code with your child's phone
That's it! You'll start receiving alerts if our AI detects any concerning messages.

Do I need access to my child's phone?

Yes, but only once during setup. You'll need your child's phone to scan the QR code (just like setting up WhatsApp Web). After that initial connection, you don't need their phone again. The connection stays active automatically.

Can I monitor multiple children?

Yes! You can add multiple children to one parent account. Each child gets their own profile, and you can connect their WhatsApp individually. You'll see alerts from all children in one unified dashboard.

WhatsApp Connection

How does the WhatsApp connection work?

ProtectKin uses WhatsApp's official "Linked Devices" feature - the same technology that powers WhatsApp Web and Desktop. When you scan our QR code, your child's WhatsApp links to our secure servers, allowing us to receive and analyze incoming messages for safety risks.

Will my child know they're being monitored?

Yes, and we believe this is important. Your child can see "ProtectKin" listed in their WhatsApp Linked Devices (Settings → Linked Devices). We encourage open conversations with your children about online safety. ProtectKin is a safety tool, not a spying tool.

Can my child disconnect ProtectKin?

Yes, your child can unlink ProtectKin from their WhatsApp settings at any time. If this happens, you'll receive an immediate notification. We recommend having a family conversation about why the protection is important before setting up.

Does ProtectKin work if my child's phone is offline?

ProtectKin works as long as your child's phone has been online in the last 14 days. WhatsApp's linked devices feature requires the primary phone to connect occasionally to stay synced. If the connection is lost, we'll notify you.

What does ProtectKin detect?

Our AI is trained to detect:
  • Cyberbullying - Insults, threats, exclusion, harassment
  • Predatory behavior - Adults asking for private info, photos, or secret meetings
  • Self-harm indicators - Signs of depression, self-harm, or suicidal thoughts
  • Inappropriate content - Sexual content, drug references, violence
  • Scams - Phishing attempts, suspicious links

Do you read all my child's messages?

No. Our AI analyzes messages automatically, but no human reads them. Safe messages are processed and immediately discarded - they're never stored. Only when a risk is detected do we create an alert with the relevant message content for you to review.

How quickly will I receive alerts?

Alerts are delivered in real-time, typically within seconds of a concerning message being received. Critical alerts (self-harm, predators) trigger immediate push notifications. Lower-severity alerts appear in your dashboard for review.

What should I do when I receive an alert?

Each alert includes guidance based on the type of risk detected. For critical alerts, we recommend having an immediate conversation with your child. For lower-severity alerts, you can review and decide if action is needed. We also provide resources and tips for discussing sensitive topics with children.

Privacy & Security

Is my data secure?

Absolutely. We use bank-level encryption (AES-256) for all stored data and TLS 1.3 for data in transit. Our infrastructure is hosted in EU data centers with SOC2 certification. We undergo regular security audits and penetration testing.

Are you GDPR compliant?

Yes. ProtectKin is fully GDPR compliant. You can request access to your data, request deletion, or export your data at any time. We have a Data Protection Officer and maintain detailed records of all data processing activities. See our Privacy Policy for details.

Can I delete my data?

Yes. You can delete your account and all associated data at any time from the app settings. This permanently removes all your family profiles, alert history, and any stored data. Deletion is completed within 30 days.

How much does ProtectKin cost?

After your free trial, ProtectKin is available from $9.99/month for one child. Family plans covering multiple children are available at a discount. We believe every child deserves protection, so we also offer reduced pricing for qualifying families.
